Chico Racing has created the best value in mountain bike stage racing, so whether you race or ride it challenge yourself at Crank The Shield.
Unsupported Riders:
*Special Note for Unsupported please refer to the accommodations section of this website for a list of hotels, and motels in the area. Also, you will need to have someone supporting you for the event. You will be responsible for your own meals and accommodations. Unsupported riders will still have access to the BBQ at the awards ceremony, and aid station food. Once these spots are sold there will be no more available and they are very limited.
What is included for the entry?:
+ 3 days of epic racing.
+ Two nights accommodations in sleeping cabins at Camp Kandalore and Camp White Pine. You will have a mattress included, but must bring your own sleeping bag, pillow etc. This differentiates our event from many other multi-day events because you will not be sleeping in a tent! Cabins range from rustic to quite modern. Some don’t have electricity, but all will be dry and more accommodating than tents.
+ Three excellent dinners (includes the bbq for the awards ceremony) - we will provide you with the best quality of food available including steak, chicken, fish, salads, pasta, desserts, and vegetarian options. We will not limit your quantities.
+ Custom Crank event t-shirt, socks and completion medal.
+ Two lunches at the finish - sandwiches & snacks (something many other events don’t provide).
+ Two fully stocked aid stations en route each day with energy drinks, fruit, energy bars, gels etc.
+ Two hearty breakfasts - you know the standard - coffee, eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit, cereal, etc.
+ Complimentary technical support provided by Norco Performance Bikes and Shimano Canada for the duration of the event.
+ Bicycle retailers will also be set up at the overnight spots with spare parts, tires etc.
+ Bike wash area with lubes, cleaners etc. at the overnight spot after each stage.
+ Car parking at Haliburton Forest (the start/finish) for three days.
+ Bag transport for the duration of the event.
+ Computer timed with results and overall placings.
+ Awards for every category, stage and overall (except short course).
Cabin Mate Selection:
We will not be assigning cabins until early September, however we always do our best to get groups assigned to the same cabins. Please keep in mind that early registrants get priority so friends should try and register for Crank within in a few weeks of each other. One more reason to register early!
Age Categories and Divisions Long Course:
- Solo Men ~ U30, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over, and Singlespeed
- Solo Women ~ U40, 40+
- Two Person Male ~ U80, 80-99, 100 plus
- Two Person Mixed (1 male, 1 female)
- Two Person Female
There are top 3 placings for each age category in each stage. Upon the conclusion of all three stages, the overall winners in each age category will receive a special Crank the Shield Winners jersey. We allow riders to change their categories, just send us an email info@chicoracing.com and we will update it. Short Course riders will be timed, however there is no prizing for Short Course participants.
Short Course Option:
*New for 2010! Short Course Option - ride between 20 and 30 less kilometers each day, putting total riding in the range of 150 to 160 km over three days, or 50 to 60 km per day. Please note that the Short Course Option is the same price as the Long Course. There is no place on the registration form to differentiate between the long or short course, but we will notify you one month in advance of the race to find out whether you are a short course rider (people may change depending on their fitness levels). Short course riders will be timed, however they will not receive prizing as this is a "FUN" only category.
Refund Policy:
• We will refund the entry less a $50 administration fee (per person) up to 90 days prior the event, refund the entry less a $200 fee (per person) 60-90 days prior the event, after this time all fees are locked in place. Should you withdraw from the event within the 60 day period you will have to sell your spot yourself. We will provide riders with a forum to sell their spots for this event. Riders are welcome to give away, or sell their spot, up to the race date with no penalties or extra costs.
• By registering for this event you are committing to the organizers that you will participate, or find someone to fill your spot, as we are committing ourselves to organize this event. We can only organize events of this size with the financial commitment of the participants.

"Thanks for a great experience. All the effort you all put in showed in the fact that everything ran so smooth. The bar has been set pretty high for other Mtb Stage Races. I am sure as word gets out there will be line ups to sign on for next year."
Jim Brogden - 2009 Participant
-
"Everything was absolutely perfect and spot on from the rider's perspective! From the bags and drop bags to the cabins, food, course markings, volunteers, course, etc - well it was one of the best ever."
Laurie Woodbury - 2009 Participant -
New - Crank The Shield offers a short course option with distances ranging between 50 to 60 km per day. It is still a tough ride but puts Crank within range for the average rider.
Crank - Short Course Option -
“Congratulations to the whole CTS team, as I rank this race (for course, accommodation, food,
Greg Andre-Barrett - 2009 Participant
volunteers, etc.) as tops on my list of completed races. The course was out of this world, including CTS trail, which I think is the best new single track I’ve ever ridden.”
