Crank The Shield News - March 2012
March 16, 2012 - Though Crank 2012 is still a full 6 months away, there’s still a few new exciting things happening as we approach Ontario’s ONLY mountain bike stage race.
Haliburton is home to a small yet vocal core of mountain bike enthusiasts, and many of them have recently stepped up to the plate in attempt to form a Haliburton-based mountain biking club. Heading the initiative has been Blake Paton, as he has been active in working with town council to see this to fruition. Owen Flood has also been vocal and is bringing his youth to the table, while Haliburton town council has been very supportive and progressive as they consider their involvement. This will give some of the trails, other operators and local riders a voice; a voice that will be seen through the eyes of Crank the Shield participants.
This group will also be involved in potential trail building, and can only serve to promote and better the already exceptional riding destinations of Sir Sam’s Ski and Bike and Haliburton Forest. Haliburton County has a great opportunity to become a mountain bike destination within Ontario, and with additional riding venues could well support an onslaught of weekend traffic. Added to the charm of the area, the myriad of lakes, resorts and gorgeous topography, Haliburton is a place that you will instantly fall in love with, as has the staff of Chico Racing!
We are already about 40% sold out for Crank 2012, get your friends together and register today! If you miss 2012, you’ll have to wait until 2014!
