Sault Ste. Marie – Home of Crank the Shield: SSM
Sault Ste. Marie, the “Friendly” city, does not disappoint! This charming Northern City is the gateway to Algoma Country, Lake Superiors incredible North Shore, and is even the home of Canada’s first female Astronaut! In addition to every amenity possible, the “Soo” is home of the famous Algoma Canyon Tour Train, and is a quick bridge away from it’s sister city in the U.S., also named Sault Ste. Marie! Algoma is the backdrop for this spectacular adventure. The land is so wild, so remote, so stunning, that Lawren Harris of the famed Group of Seven would, for many years, rent a boxcar off the Algoma railway, getting dropped off with other members to paint this vast land. For Crank the Shield, we are working on having an artist in residence throughout the trip, and will have paintings by prominent painters as prizes along the way. Algoma boasts some of the finest shorelines in the world! The world’s largest Lake, Lake Superior weaves its way northward, and some of the prettiest sections lie within Algoma! If you’ve never before gazed upon the vast beauty of Superior’s crystal clear waters, you owe it to yourself to stay after, or come early and enjoy this magnificent wonder.
