Strong community involvement is one of the keys to a successful event. The following is an outline and contact list for the larger communities that play host or are a significant part of your adventure.
Bracebridge
With the event start a mere 10 km away at Buckwallow, Bracebridge is one of the host community for the start of the race. Many of you will opt to stay the night before, to get a good rest and start the event with less stress. Bracebridge offers exceptional dining, and a great variety of accommodations. For more information on this great cottage country town, visit www.town.bracebridge.on.ca
Gravenhurst
Actually slightly closer to the start than Bracebridge, Gravenhurst is a smaller community that offers cottage country charm and several hotels and restaurants. Crank the Shield is fortunate to have two larger communities within a quick drive from the start, providing ample services for those who want to venture up the night before. For more information, visit www.gravenhurst.ca and see why the gateway to the Muskokas is also your gateway to Crank the Shield.
Minden
The focal point for stage #2, Minden provides a variety of amenities to both tourists and passersby. With the beautiful Gull River flowing through the center of town, Minden is well known to paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Minden is the closest town to our first nights accommodations at Camp Kandalore. For more information on this destination, visit www.mindenhills.ca and find out why Minden is in season, every season.
Haliburton
Haliburton provides the backdrop to the exciting conclusion of stage #2, and is very close to your second nights accommodations at Camp White Pine. Haliburton offers a picturesque downtown with a variety of shopping options, and several restaurants and hotels. The park in the heart of downtown will provide a great resting place for finishing riders, and the townsfolk are as excited as you are to finish in the heart of downtown.
