The longest ride of the race starts with a hearty breakfast from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. Riders need to ride to the start area, 4 km from Kandalore, along Hwy #35. Signage will lead you to the start. The event will begin at 9:00 am, winding you through 40 km of true Ontario backcountry mountain biking. With wicked ups and downs, tons of exposed rock, technical sections and beautiful vistas this is the true heart of Shield country. A mix of back roads and road allowances will take riders through some of Haliburton's most breathtaking scenery, before riders finish with 5 km of great trail right at Camp White Pine. No more bus rides from Haliburton! Short course riders will ride to Aid Station # 2 (near Minden), where their bikes will be loaded and they will be bused 25 km to Camp White Pine. Dinner will be served at Camp White Pine at 6:45 pm. White Pine has great swimming, sports, excellent shower facilities, and lounging areas for riders arriving earlier and those who don’t want to retire to their cabins too early. Riders will take their bikes with them to the cabin overnight, unless they use the awesome service provided by the Trek Bicycle Store. After dinner riders will make their way to the theater, or stay put in the mess hall for the awards ceremony and a preview of the final stage!

"Thanks for a great experience. All the effort you all put in showed in the fact that everything ran so smooth. The bar has been set pretty high for other Mtb Stage Races. I am sure as word gets out there will be line ups to sign on for next year."
Jim Brogden - 2009 Participant

"Everything was absolutely perfect and spot on from the rider's perspective! From the bags and drop bags to the cabins, food, course markings, volunteers, course, etc - well it was one of the best ever."
Laurie Woodbury - 2009 Participant -
New - Crank The Shield offers a short course option with distances ranging between 50 to 60 km per day. It is still a tough ride but puts Crank within range for the average rider.

“Congratulations to the whole CTS team, as I rank this race (for course, accommodation, food,

volunteers, etc.) as tops on my list of completed races. The course was out of this world, including CTS trail, which I think is the best new single track I’ve ever ridden.”
